   Air braces OK?

The installation of purlin braces to reduce the rafter span is permitted provided that the purlins are sized and installed properly.  Purlins should be sized no less than the required size of the rafters that they support and should be continuous and should be supported by 2 x 4 inch races installed to bearing walls at a slope no less than 45° from horizontal.  The braces should be spaced not more than 4 feet on center and the unbraced length of the braces should not exceed 8 feet.
